Like much of the global population, people in rural Kenya rely on farming to survive. Agriculture is the backbone of the Kenyan economy, but smallholder farmers are a particularly vulnerable link in the chain, putting in most of the work, yet seeing the least of the profits.
Small-scale farms make-up 90 percent of the world’s farms and produce the majority of the world’s food. But this fragile way of life is being threatened at an alarming rate as climate change drives more unpredictable and frequent weather shocks.
The Mercy Corps AgriFin Accelerate Program is a six-year, $25 million program, funded by the Mastercard Foundation. AgriFin seeks to address the inclusion gap for smallholder farmers who lack access to affordable, accessible, demand-driven financial products and services that drive higher productivity and income for farm families.
